So this older fella was mouthing off about young people on our phones at a bus stop one day recently. There was a row of maybe 5 people including myself, all around the same age, that he kept staring at and loudly talking about in ways that were obviously meant for us to hear. I get that many older people feel a little left behind by how technology's moved on, but that's no damn excuse to be an arsehole in public about it.

I think the thing that frustrated me most was that I had a perfect put-down, but he never singled me out to set it up. I kept getting his eye contact, and was waiting for him to say something like "oh so you do look up from your phone every so often", at which point I would've been pretty much invited to respond with "yeh, not every day you see a real life dinosaur". I don't know whether I genuinely would've said it, but god I wanted to. He just kept going on for something like 15 minutes, dragging anyone willing to put up with him into the conversation. 3 different times the person he was talking to moved away or got on a bus to be replaced by someone else at which point he'd take the script from the top again.

Dang, that dinosaur line would have been a killer! You could have told him it was exciting to see a celebrity you'd seen at the movies the previous week when you saw Jurassic World!
