People don't tend to think of Alexx as an immigrant, even when people haven't known her very long. She works, she speaks English as her first language, she shares a tonne of culture with us courtesy of US hegemony and the internet, and doesn't give off the vibe of being "other" that people usually associate with immigrants. Which makes it really funny and kinda sad when even people that know her and have met her still hold the view that the immigration rules for the UK are too lax for those outside the EU. When she came here on her mobility visa nearly 2 years ago, there were two other visas available that she could've applied for once her current one ran out. But public pressure and the rise of UKIP is such that - even though it's the EU that's the source of the current wave of immigrants that people are mad about - those two visas are no longer available to apply for, and no other remaining visa is applicable. And before anyone suggests marriage as a solution, read up on the damn immigration rules. It's not the fix-all solution everyone seems to think it is. So yeh, if you're anti-immigration, I'm probably not a very good person to try to convince right now.

It's also amazing how ignorant people are regarding the extent to which public services depend on immigrants. Northampton hospital had to hire a bunch of nurses from Portugal. I say keep the immigrants and deport the UKIP supporters!
