In the Olympic Park and surrounding parts of London right now, there is one CCTV camera for every 14 people they expect to be there, and software capable of tracking any given individual's whereabouts across London. And around Olympic park, there are fucking missile launchers - ones that have had exactly zero combat usage so no one really knows how effective they are - mounted on top of residential buildings.

I can forgive the use of the army to fill in for G4S's failure - although does seem a bit odd that they don't just ask for volunteers from police forces across the UK and go straight for the army option, but there's probably some logic - either cost or practicality for it.

But what doesn't make sense is everything else I mentioned. Why do we need missile launchers? Especially ones that use civilian homes as bases! If there was a plane that was hijacked and heading towards the Olympics, what would we prefer: One single impact in Olympic Park, or thousands of sharp, burning fragments, and tonnes of heavy debris raining down over a huge swathe of central London? Using a watered down version of Damascus as inspiration for your security strategy isn't comforting, it's creepy and deeply worrying.

Y'know, these past two days make me seem really grumpy and anti-Olympics, but I've got nothing against the event itself. There is a lot of cultural pride that comes with hosting an Olympic games, especially with the Opening Ceremony we had, and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to go see a home games, but it's all the stuff that surrounds it that bugs me. If we could have the impressive architecture, sporting competition and friendly atmosphere without the economic disaster, freedom of speech suppression and police-state security, I'd support it without hesitation!

A rocket launcher seems pretty standard to me, unless they are nukes, then that over killing. :P

Ah, it's actually for when we transform london into a kickass mech battlesuit! Then the rocket launchers will be its primary armament.

THEN we'll fly into an ocean of spiral energy in space, and the missile launchers will shoot DRILLS!
