There's a lot that can be said about the attack in Woolwich on Wednesday, and I have a feeling that the vast majority of it has already been said. For instance, one point I would make about the fact that, really, we can hardly justify calling this a "terrorist" incident was made by the Guardian. Half of the political pages I follow on Facebook have pointed out that what the UK and it's allies do/have done in the Middle East is worse and on a grander scale. Several people on tumblr have pointed out that we can't infer anything about 1.6 billion people from the actions of two people, and that on the whole, the Quran teaches that violence should not be used anyone who isn't an active aggressor.
And finally, the way to respond to a lone act of violence is NOT with widespread vigilante retribution against people who are in a different part of the country and had nothing to do with that violence, as terrible as that violence may be. Honestly, the EDL are to Britain what Al Qaeda is to the average Muslim. I hate that they use the symbols of my country to justify bigotry, hate and violence, it really makes me angry. And if it's the "Muslim community"'s job to condemn the Woolwich attack, then it's the "white community"'s job to condemn the hypocritical retribution of the EDL.
