So yeh, me and Frank were both convinced the other one of us would win the RTS Award - I thought his was the best on a technical and skill level, and he thought mine had the best story and humour. Turns out we were both wrong - apparently the RTS in Bristol rates political messages quite highly! Guess I kinda respect that, even if I still think Frank's was the best put together of the 3 nominated films.

After watching the three nominees I do have to say that A Messy State of Affairs wasn't that impressive from an animation standpoint so I am curious what the criterion was from the judges. Not that I'm putting down the animation it was still a decent piece it just didn't really compare to the other nominees.

I think Grave mistake could have benefited from some more polished sound design, it would have been really enhanced with sound effects under the music and maybe make the music take a bit more subtle at times(no more electric guitar please). Other than that I might actually say that it's the best piece of the lot based on an interesting concept and well executed(though I might be biased being a fan of yours).

Between The Trees did look very good though, I'm a sucker for those character designs and the forest and cottage looked spectacular I did find myself not all that interested in the story itself so Frank might want to work with a professional writer for his next project.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do next!

Yeh, I'm curious what the thinking was. If I were a judge, I'd be looking for the one that would hold up best next to professional animation, and Frank's is the one - to me - that holds up when placed next to proper cinematic production companies in the quality of the visuals and how well the puppets and sets are made that they can both look good and convey character. Sure, the story is it's weak point, but when judging student awards, I'd reward the one that seems the least student-like. Mine was too visually reminiscent of a typical Newgrounds flash from back in the day (and while that plays well with audiences online, it never has and likely never will catch the eye of 'professional' judges) and Arty's eyes n lip sync were layered over an extremely simple character that reminded me a lot of the Knox's Klay series on Newgrounds. All three of them have strong and weak points, and I like Arty's message in his, but it's like The Big Short. I love The Big Short. I think everyone needs to see it. But I'm glad it didn't win the Oscar because it was not the best film out of the nominees, even though it was my favourite of the nominees I'd seen.

While I'm a fan of your work, perhaps this is in poor taste. I'm sure the other person who won can see this.

this feels slightly more arrogant than usual, as I watched arty's film and its visually interesting and well executed and you're really putting it down here.
