So there's someone in one of my classes at school that I was just starting to think might be worth being friends with. Then, just as I was thinking of asking them to come HvZ or something, they drop the "I hate comics" bomb. Needless to say, I am now perfectly happy with them just being another person I go to school with and nothing more.

Hey, you never know, they might have hidden depths. Maybe her parents were killed by a black and white cartoonist, and now she projects her rage onto all of them.

*lol's at James's comment*

I hate it when shit like that happens, it makes ya feel kind of inferior, because you do something they see as pointless and stupid, and you wonder how they could ever hate what you love, and so you stay clear of them most of the time because you don't want to disgust them with your likes and dislikes because apparently they're backwards from theirs. though maybe that's just me. :B

then again i'm not saying i don't make friends with people that like things i don't. there's a girl in art and photo class who loves twilight and hates video games, but we speak often, i'd call us friends. i think i remember saying to her "ugh i hate twilight" but she defended it, and we just kind of moved past it, as if it didn't really matter, which i guess it doesn't, not really. I think if you'd have defended your case she might've not necessarily changed her mind, but accepted you liked comics and she doesn't and been a big enough person not to care. it's not like once you make friends with someone it's permanent, and if she was an arse to you because you like comics and she doesn't then she's fickle, ignorant and not worth your friendship anyway. maybe if she was/is open-minded enough you could even change her opinion of comics if she got used to you. I mean I've had people insult naruto and drawing manga in general to my face as if they expect it to be a direct insult, really it only gives me the impression that they're idiotic and narrow-minded, sure it hurts a little, but it's whatever, y'know? and it's not like i'm not friends with you because i don't like MLP. in fact half the fandoms my friends stumble into i think are mostly made of bullshit...

...anyway, you get the point. sorry for the long comment lol x

basically what i'm saying is don't rule her completely out, conversation is difficult to make, and it's human nature to find common ground based on mutual hate as well as love for something. she probably knows nothing of comics, and so her opinion isn't really valid anyway. it's like i'm sure i might like MLP if i actually watched some of the episodes. I didn't like the hunger games at first but now i'm at the end of the book i can see myself drawing fan art in the near future.

I didn't read most of your comment, but I agree with
"don't rule her completely out, conversation is difficult to make"

That said it takes some guts to try to make friends with someone who starts off disliking your passion.
